The Apples of the Hesperides

Based on the 12 Labors of Hercules.

This is the Apples of the Hesperides, better known as the golden apples. This was one of the most involved stories. Hercules was charged with getting the golden apples of Zeus, which were guarded by a 100 headed dragon and Hesperides, the nymph daughters of Atlas. As Hercules traveled to find the location of the apples he came across Prometheus, a titan who stole the gift of fire from the gods and was cursed to get his liver eaten every day by a giant bird. Hercules freed him and in return Prometheus told him where to find Atlas. Hercules traveled until he met Atlas, the titan who holds up the sky. He agreed to retrieve the apples while Hercules held up the sky. Once Atlas came back though he refused to take the sky back. Hercules said he understood, but if Atlas would hold it once more so he could adjust it more comfortably. Once Atlas took the sky, Hercules took the apples and left.

The main colors are red and gold, the regular color of apples, and the color of the apples from the tale. I used a grey/silver to make the colors pop more. The bodice is a detail of a tree from the garden where the apples would grow. The shoulder strap is held by a dragon-shaped brooch. The sides are covered with red cloth, to symbolize Prometheus getting his stomach eaten everyday.
